what will the difference be if i use cheap MTB Shoes like the ones in the link?
as apposed to decent quality running shoes?

I cycle between 30 and 50 miles a day 6 days a week on roads and cycle paths
also, would I be better buying a better quality/more expensive pair
oh yeah, i use mountain bikes with standard pedals
Cycling shoes are designed with a stiff sole. This is to maximize power transfer to the pedals while minimizing stresses on your feet. Try flexing one at your local bike shop and you’ll quickly realize how different they are. While you can walk around a store with them, you won’t want to take a long hike as they will be awkward.
In addition, cycling shoes uppers are attached more ruggedly to the sole of the shoe. This is because many shoes are used with “clipless” type pedals. This type of system allow you to pull on the upstroke and push down on the pedals.
I don’t have expensive shoes, but rather moderate cost ones that fit me well. Fit is crucial to you comfort and the shoes longevity. If it is loose your foot will become sore and the shoe will be stretched out faster and wear faster.
The biggest difference you might find is that your feet will probably be less tired at the end of the ride as the tendons are less stressed. As a bonus you will also have the choice of going to a clipless system if you so choose.
