The Correct Bike Seat Height
Modern bicycles have a lot of different parts; tires, inner tubes, spokes, rims, tire arms, frame, brakes, mud guards, pedals, handle bars, gears, gear shifters, chains, seat, and several accessory parts like water bottle holders, horns, bells, lights, lock holders, bike seat bags, reflectors, pedal straps, speedometers, odometers, and really just about anything you can think of.
One of the more important parts of a bike, for both your safety and you comfort, is the seat. In addition to it’s being comfortable to sit on, it must also be fixed at the correct height for your body.
Setting the seat in it’s proper place is very easy to do. The way to go about it is to rotate the pedals so that one of them is at the bottom of its rotation and then place you foot on the pedal and bend you knee to approximately a 25 to 30 degree angle. Then you adjust the seat so that the height you’re sitting at matches that 25 – 30 degree angle on your knee. On the frame where the seat post goes into the frame, there is a clamp that is tightened to keep the seat at the desired height.
Sometimes, when biking in mountains or prolonged distance riding on the road, it is necessary to make adjustments to the seat to accommodate different riding situations. If you find yourself in these situations, it is good foresight to mark the seat post where it goes into the frame at the correct height for your body.
The most important reason to set your seat at the proper height for your body is because if the seat is too high or too low, you might find yourself straining your knees to give the pedals a full rotation.
