need advice and suggestions for spin class (cycling)?
I just taken up spin class and have a few questions about it. First off… how do you adjust your seat? I see a few people they have the handle bars on the lowest setting and their seat parallel to the handle bars..whys that??
What is so special about cycling shoes?? how can it make your spin class benificial?
any other advice on spnning??
You want your seat adjusted so you have a slight bend at the knee with the ball of your foot over the center of the pedal and straight with the heal of your foot at the same place. Adjust the handle bars to where you don’t have to lean on them too much, the harder you pedal the less pressure you will place on them and you start pulling.
Cycling shoes you can get for around $40 and a set of clips will run another 15-20. They allow you to push over the top, pull on the bottom and lift on the back pedal stroke. Check with the instructor but most use the SPD system. It allows you to use more of the muscles in you legs.
You instructor should guide you through the class. Adjust the resistance to where you are breathing fast enough to talk but not sing. If you are not breathing hard or sweating add more resistance. If you need to catch your breath or your legs start to hurt reduce the resistance. You want to keep your cadence at 70-90 rpm’s normally and faster when the instructor tells you.
